What to expect from The CARE Course
The CARE Course emphasises a FUN, WARM and SUPPORTIVE learning environment. The course, and this learning site are aimed at rural emergency care providers. The intended audience is physicians, nurses and paramedics.
Themes in this Course
-managing with few staff/resources
-delayed time to transport
-complex transport routes/options
-scheduling/planned timing of procedures/interventions
-decision making/prioritizing/multi-tasking
-group/team interaction/management
The CARE Course experience
-emphasis in scenarios of
doing the scenario, not
talking one's way through a scenario
-reality-based (in running of scenario, it isn't sufficient for participant just to say "i'd do RSI" or "IVs x2, foley, N/G" (b/c in reality, these things take time and can't be done simultaneously)
-academic/theory vs reality
-modelling (demonstrating) what is being taught...i.e. use of verbal summaries to students, just as one does in a resuscitation to provider team.
-use of
real scenarios (not concocted ones) and emphasize this to students. - this protects instructors and adds ++educational value
